Yellow
Friday, February 8th, 2008There seems to be some splashes of yellow making an appearance this year. The odd splash of yellow brightens up a monochrome room nicely, but beware of too much and too coordinated. Orange is another good option.

It is very easy to think you want a pale and neutral room, but don’t imagine that by keeping everything light you will achieve the look you want. Even neutral schemes need strong colours to stop them looking bland, particularly in large rooms.
Most people put their pictures and photos too high on their walls. The centre of the picture should be 1.54m. If you’re grouping pictures then the centre of the group should also be 1.54m.
We went to 100% Design Show on Friday. There’s lots of retro 60s & 70s stuff which looks nice but…. comfort is lacking in many pieces. At the end of the day it’s important to be able sink into something that feels good as well as looks good.
That wallpaper-on-one-wall thing that’s going on is a tricky one; we like the idea but hardly ever see it looking good (although it does look great in the new Blackstones Restaurant in Bath) so think carefully before you do it.
Digital printing techniques mean that huge wall art is going to become more and more popular. We really love massive flowers. The Canvas Art Company also covers furniture which looks amazing.
Have you heard about the latest fashion in cookers? Ditch your Aga and spend your thousands on a Lacanche. Mind you, we’d rather spend our thousands on Vivienne Westwood’s ‘Magnolia Black’ rug, which is truly fabulous.
There is a new interior design trend coming… black and white. It’s a good look, we like it. You have to be careful though, it can look cheap and it can look stark. You can’t do it half-heartedly and you need to add some warmth with wood and a dramatic colour, chose your favourite!
